What we collect
If you subscribe to the weekly email we store the email address you enter, a normalised copy used to prevent duplicates, where on the site you signed up, and the time of signup.
How we use it
To send you the Fundamentalytics weekly email: our new research, the results that mattered and the week ahead. You subscribe by entering your address, and that consent is the basis on which we email you. We do not sell or share the list, and we don't enrich it with data from anywhere else.
Who sends the email
The email is delivered by Kit (Kit Inc., based in the United States), which acts as our processor and stores your address so it can send the email and handle unsubscribes. Kit records whether an email is opened and which links are clicked; we use those totals only to see which research readers find useful. Transfers to the United States rely on Kit's standard data protection terms.
Where it lives
Signups, accounts, watchlists and portfolios are stored in a database hosted on Cloudflare's infrastructure. Access is limited to the site operator.
Reader accounts, watchlists and portfolios
You can create an account by signing in with Google. Google tells us your Google account id (a number that identifies your account to us and nothing else), your email address, whether Google has verified that address, and the name on your Google account. We never see your Google password, and we ask Google for nothing beyond that basic profile.
We store:
- your Google account id, email address and name, and when you created the account;
- the companies on your watchlist and when you added them;
- your portfolio tickers, share quantities, average costs and when you last updated them, if you add holdings;
- your newsletter choice (we only email you if you tick the box to opt in);
- your active sign-in sessions, each with its expiry date.
We use these only to run your account: to keep you signed in, show your watchlist and portfolio, and send the weekly email if you asked for it. Your watchlist and portfolio are not shared, sold or used for advertising. Google acts as the sign-in provider; signing in is also covered by Google's own privacy policy.
Retention. We keep your account until you delete it. Each sign-in lasts 30 days or until you sign out, whichever is sooner. Deletion. On your account page, "Delete my account" immediately removes your account, your watchlist, your portfolio and all your sessions from our database and stops the weekly email. The only thing we keep is an anonymous running count of how many accounts have been deleted. If the weekly email had already been sent to you, your address is then unsubscribed at our email provider (below), which may keep it on its suppression list so you are not emailed again.
Cookies
The site sets no tracking or advertising cookies. It uses only functional cookies: one to keep you signed in to your account (it holds a random session code, not your details), a short-lived one that protects the Google sign-in step and expires after ten minutes, and, during the private preview, one for the preview password.
Unsubscribing and removal
Every email has an unsubscribe link that takes effect immediately. If you have an account you can also turn the email off on your account page. To have your address deleted entirely, reply to any email we send and we'll remove it from both Kit and our database. You can also ask for a copy of what we hold, or complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
