DoorDash connects merchants, consumers and independent delivery workers known as Dashers through its DoorDash, Wolt and Deliveroo marketplaces, alongside a separate Commerce Platform. The marketplaces let people discover and order from local merchants, with fulfilment handled by Dashers, who choose when and where to work. The Commerce Platform offers white-label delivery (branded Drive) plus tools such as online ordering, branded apps, reservations and customer relationship management, letting merchants run their own channels.
Money comes from several sources: fees charged to merchants based on transaction size, delivery and service fees paid by consumers, advertising sold to merchants and consumer packaged goods firms, and membership programmes (DashPass, Wolt+ and Deliveroo Plus) that lower per-order fees in exchange for a subscription. Dashers are paid per active time or completed task, factoring in distance and desirability.
The marketplaces operate in more than 40 countries, including the United States, and generate the great majority of group revenue; local food delivery logistics is described as its largest and most competitive category. In December 2025 the marketplaces served over 56 million monthly active users, with more than 35 million paid, trial or partnership members, and the company employed over 31,400 people worldwide. Originally incorporated in 2013 as Palo Alto Delivery Inc., it was renamed DoorDash in 2015.
