Viavi Solutions works in test and measurement and optical technologies. Its Network and Service Enablement (NSE) division supplies instruments and software to build, test, monitor and secure communication networks, fibre broadband and data centres, alongside resilient positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) equipment for military, aerospace, railway and first-responder use.

NSE customers include telecoms and datacom carriers, network-equipment and semiconductor makers, cloud and data-centre operators, enterprises, utilities and government and defence bodies; named accounts include AT&T, Verizon, Cisco, Nokia and Ericsson. Viavi earns money by selling hardware, application software and testing-as-a-service. Its Optical Security and Performance Products (OSP) division manufactures colour-shifting pigments formulated into inks for banknotes and secure documents, plus thin-film optical filters for 3D sensing, automotive LiDAR, aerospace and industrial markets.

The two divisions each run their own engineering, manufacturing and sales, and sell worldwide. OSP markets its banknote materials through an alliance with SICPA, and its anti-counterfeiting technology appears on banknotes in more than 100 countries.
