C+ Fundamentals grade

Baxter International makes and sells essential healthcare products, including sterile intravenous solutions, infusion systems, parenteral nutrition therapies, inhaled anaesthetics, generic injectable medicines, surgical hemostat and sealant products, advanced surgical equipment, smart bed systems, and patient monitoring, diagnostic and respiratory devices. Customers include hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centres, ambulatory surgery centres, doctors' offices and patients treated at home under medical supervision. Revenue comes from product sales through its own sales force and through independent distributors, drug wholesalers and specialty pharmacies; in the United States, firms such as Cardinal Health and Medline warehouse and ship much of its output.

As of 31 December 2025, following the sale of its former Kidney Care business, the company manufactured in more than 20 countries and sold products in over 100 countries, with international operations spanning Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Canada.

Baxter was incorporated in Delaware in 1931. It has recently reshaped its portfolio, divesting its BioPharma Solutions business in 2023 and its Kidney Care business, now Vantive Health, in January 2025, using proceeds mainly to reduce debt.
