C+ Fundamentals grade

Consolidated Edison is a New York-incorporated holding company, founded in 1997, that owns Consolidated Edison Company of New York (CECONY), Orange and Rockland Utilities (O&R) and Con Edison Transmission. CECONY delivers regulated electricity, gas and steam; O&R delivers regulated electricity and gas; Con Edison Transmission develops transmission projects and holds electric and gas assets through joint ventures.

Revenue comes from charges for delivering energy to households and businesses, at rates approved by state regulators including the New York State Public Service Commission. CECONY serves about 3.7 million electricity customers across New York City, excluding part of Queens, and most of Westchester County, plus roughly 1.1 million gas customers in Manhattan, the Bronx, parts of Queens and Westchester. O&R, via its RECO subsidiary, supplies around 0.3 million electricity customers and over 0.1 million gas customers in southeastern New York and northern New Jersey.

The group operates through these three units across the New York City area, Westchester County and parts of New Jersey. CECONY also runs what it describes as the largest steam distribution system in the United States, supplying around 16,975 MMlb of steam yearly to about 1,490 Manhattan customers.
