Dow Inc. is a materials science company producing chemicals, plastics and speciality materials, including polyethylene, functional polymers, olefins and aromatics, industrial solutions produced through alkoxylation, polyurethanes and construction chemicals, coatings and acrylic monomers, and silicone-based consumer products.
Customers operate across industrial, consumer durables, building and construction, home and personal care, energy and pharmaceutical markets, with some capacity investments underpinned by long-term supply agreements with consumer-goods customers. The company earns money chiefly by selling these materials at prevailing local prices and volumes in each region. A separate Corporate activity includes an insurance operation that receives premiums for covering risks of third parties.
The business is organised into three reporting segments: Packaging & Specialty Plastics, Industrial Intermediates & Infrastructure, and Performance Materials & Coatings, plus Corporate. It sells across the United States and Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India, Asia Pacific, and Latin America. Dow's structure dates back to its separation from DowDuPont Inc. It has recently completed a world-scale polyethylene unit on the US Gulf Coast and is constructing the world's first net-zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions integrated ethylene and derivatives complex, located in Alberta, Canada.
