C+ Fundamentals grade

Pinterest operates a visual search and discovery platform, reachable through a mobile app or the web, that sits between search, social media and shopping. People browse and save images, videos and collages known as Pins, organising them onto themed collections called boards. The company uses artificial intelligence and computer vision, drawing on signals it calls the Taste Graph, to recommend relevant content across surfaces such as the Home Feed, search results and related Pins.

The platform is free to users and earns money from advertising. Brands and retailers pay to place ads—formats include standard, video, shopping, carousel, collection and Idea ads—mostly bought through an auction and managed via the Ads Manager tool or an API. Advertisers span sectors including retail, packaged goods, financial services, technology, travel and motoring, and are served by an in-house sales team.

Pinterest reports 619 million monthly active users across more than 100 countries, about two-thirds of them women. It employs 5,265 people, is based in San Francisco and trades on the New York Stock Exchange as PINS.

Our note on each quarter Pinterest files

10-Q filed October 29: Pinterest

Pinterest's revenue reached $4.68bn in the twelve months to September 2026, a rise of 15.4% on the prior year. That pace has eased from the 16.6% growth recorded a quarter earlier. Free-cash-flow margin, meanwhile, held steady at 27.0%, showing no deterioration in cash generation even as growth cools. Operating margin tells a different story, narrowing to 4.2% from 6.9%, a sharper decline worth watching. On the capital structure side, the diluted share count has fallen 11.7% year on year. Buybacks of this scale help offset some of the margin pressure, since each remaining share now carries a larger claim on the business. Taken together, the figures point to a company still expanding but with profitability under more strain than before.

Our model value for Pinterest is under review, so past values are not shown until it is resolved.

Earlier notes (1)

Where Pinterest stands after its latest 10-Q

Revenue for the twelve months to June 2026 was $4.56bn, up 16.6% on a year earlier, about the same pace as a quarter earlier. That growth ranks 5 of 23 among the internet and data companies we cover.
