AMETEK designs and manufactures electronic instruments and electromechanical devices through two groups: Electronic Instruments and Electromechanical. Electronic Instruments makes process and analytical equipment such as analysers, emission monitors and precision metrology systems, plus aerospace instruments including aircraft sensors, cockpit displays and power-quality monitoring and uninterruptible power equipment. Electromechanical supplies precision motion-control systems, medical components such as surgical instruments and drug-delivery devices, thermal-management systems, specialty metals and electrical connectors.
Customers span process industries, power utilities, aerospace and defence manufacturers, medical device makers and automation businesses, reached through a direct sales force as well as distributors and representatives. Revenue comes mainly from equipment sales, plus spare parts, repairs and aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul work for commercial and military aviation customers; no single customer accounts for a large share of either group's sales.
The two segments, split roughly 70:30 between main and secondary markets, run manufacturing and service sites across North America, Europe, Asia and South America, including the UK, Germany, China and Mexico. Tracing its roots to 1930, the company employs around 22,500 people and in 2025 acquired FARO Technologies and Kern Microtechnik, adding 3D measurement and high-precision machining capabilities.
